Mopane worms is a popular dish eaten by many people across Southern Africa. Some people choose to refer to Mopane worms simply as caterpillars. Since the name ‘Mopane worms’ is derived from the source of food for the worms which is the Mopane tree leaves. They are mostly consumed in countries such as South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. Mopane worms are rich in protein, fats, and minerals. Research studies on Mopane worms suggest that Mopane worms contain higher protein than other sources such as chicken and milk. In rural areas, worms are an affordable supplement for protein. It is also advisable to feed young children with pounded mopane worms, as it enhances growth in young children. In addition to the nutrition that is derived from Mopane worms, they are a source of income for harvesters in rural areas. Mopane worms can be cooked dry or mixed with sauce. Steps

  1. Soak mopane worms in boiling water for 10 minutes.
  2. Get your other ingredients ready which are 1/2 tsp ginger, 4 tsp curry powder, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 ground black pepper and oil for frying
  3. Drain your mopane worms using a colander and rinse them. Heat oil in pan, add your garlic and ginger and swirl.
  4. dd madora and cook stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes.
  5. Add curry powder and stir.
  6. Add onions and stir until the onions are done (about 2 min)
  7. Add tomatoes and stir again until they are cooked (2 min).
  8. Finally add shallots and stir until everything is mixed and blended in (1 min).
  9. Your delicacy is ready and ready to serve and enjoy
